Visiting London in June? Don't Miss the Changing of the Guard

London is great to visit this time of year - there is plenty to do and the weather is great. As you plan the itinerary for your upcoming visit there is one that you mustn't forget to include - The Changing of the Guard . This is an annual event that takes place every year in June at Buckingham Palace. The event is completely free and anyone can stand outside the palace and enjoy the event. Make sure to get there early though - it is a popular event and attracts quite a crowd. So what is it and why is it important? The Queen has to be guarded at all times, and the soldiers who get the job done are called the Queen's Guard. They are drawn from the active duty soldiers of the Household Division's Foot Guards who are stationed at St. James Palace. The event itself is simple and quick - the Old Guard assembles outside the Buckingham Palace at 10.30 am on June 22nd and is then joined by the St. James Palace Old Guard at 10.45 am.
